Microchipping is a means of pet identification. An implant, about the size of a
grain of rice, is injected under the skin between the shoulder blades. Most of
the animal shelters and veterinarians in the area are equipped with scanners.
When activated and waved over the pet's shoulders, the scanner detects the
microchip's unique number. A quick call to a data base company allows the
microchip number to be matched with the guardian's telephone number.

Clayton Animal Hospital uses the Avid Microchip System. The Avid System
features a patented anti-migration design that reduces the tendency for the
microchip to move away from the implantation site. Unlike some newer chips,
the Avid Microchip System can be detected by both older and newer style
scanners. This capability insures a maximum recovery rate.
