In pets, root canal therapy is usually
reserved for teeth that are essential for
chewing or jaw support. In
over-simplied terms, a root canal
begins with a small hole being drilled
into the central core of the tooth. The
living center of the tooth, called the
pulp, is removed and replaced with a
substance called gutta- percha. The
procedure results in a non-painful
tooth resistent to infection.
Clayton Animal Hospital is fortunate to
have three veterinarians wih
experience performing root canal
therapies. They are Dr. Stacey
Beam, Dr. Kelly Camacho and Dr.
Christina Holzer.
Cracked, broken or discolored teeth
will often become abscessed if
ignored. In most cases, treatment
should be extraction or root canal
therapy.
